In the first season of the Real Housewives of Nairobi (RHON), fans were treated to an inside look at the glamorous lives of socialites from the city.

From social media personality Vera Sidika showing us her ‘mummy mode’ as she raised her growing family, to actress Minne Kariuki fiercely protecting her tuff, it was an entertaining start.

The original cast also starred luxury influencer Sonal Maherali, entrepreneur Susan Kaitanny, author, rally driver Lisa Christoffersen and Doctor Catherine Masitsa.

The series had a big outing at this year’s Kalasha Film and TV Awards, taking home the  Best TV Show Award.

Showmax released a statement listing shows that will be available on the streaming service in May following a relaunch, including RHON, Single Kiasi season 3 and international mega films like Barbie and Oppenheimer.

The statement notes on RHON: “[The show] makes a comeback after a strong debut in 2023 that saw it break streaming records, with its first episode becoming the most-watched launch episode ever for any title on Showmax in Kenya.”

The series is produced by Eugene Mbugua’s D&R Studios (formerly Young Rich Television) and is part of The Real Housewives franchise. It is licensed by NBCUniversal Formats, which is part of Universal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group.

The statement reports on the line-up: “International blockbusters in May include the #1 box office movie of 2023, Barbie, from Oscar-nominated writer-director Greta Gerwig. Winner of over 180 awards, including six Critics Choice Awards and two Golden Globes, Barbie was up for seven Oscars this year, including Best Picture, Best Screenplay and Best Soundtrack (which it won).”

“Joining Barbie for #ShowmaxBarbenheimer is Christopher Nolan’s 2023 box office hit Oppenheimer, winner of more than 300 awards including seven Oscars. The 2024 Academy Awards saw Oppenheimer win both Best Picture and Best Director for Nolan.”

A poster of the second season of RHON is also making its rounds in the press, clearly showcasing Vera, Minne and Doctor Catherine as cast members. It, however, but blurs out the faces of the new additions, leaving the rest to fans’ speculation.

On the poster for the show’s second season, the ladies, six in total, are all dolled up, dressed in matching burnt orange outfits.

While the faces of the other three ladies is yet to be revealed, viewers can safely assume that Susan Kaitanny, Lisa Christoffersen and Sonal Maherali are not returning for the second season.

An entertainment blog reported on the show in October last year: “Production decisions played a role in these departures, with one cast member being informed that they lacked the necessary drama, while another individual was released due to mental health concerns. The reunion took a toll on her, and she has been quite candid about her previous struggles with depression.”

The report also noted that the popular socialite Amber Ray was in talks to join the show for the second season, although that has not been confirmed. Eager fans filed up the comment section, with guesses ranging from YouTuber Diana Bahati to beautyprenuer Maureen Bandari.

Meanwhile, the already confirmed cast mates of the show have remained mum on who the new additions are and what fans can look out for in the next season.

Minne’s Instagram has continued to feature glimpses of her luxurious life, her pregnancy journey and sweet moments with her family.

On the other hand, Vera’s social media has been featuring clips and images of trips abroad and motherly duties with her little ones.

The new season of the show will be released in May.
